'Gee’s Bend is a play written by Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder based on the true story of 3 generations of the Pettway women of Gee’s Bend Alabama. Originally a settlement community of predominately poor African American families, the women of the community have used scraps of old fabric to strip together quilts for warmth. The free flowing colors and random patterns of the quilts from Gee’s Bend captured the hearts of the New York Art scene, turning the comforting warmth of the discarded fabric into valued works of art.
The performance is directed by Bruce Shaw and features Azusa (SheShe) Dance, Ikeko Moore Bass, Shelia Wofford and Jeremy Wilkins. Tickets are availableonline or at the CTC Box Office. The matinee performance on Sunday September 14th will include playwrite Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder.

Hairspray is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues. In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show.[1] When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, and meets a colorful array of characters. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s. The musical's original Broadway production opened on August 15, 2002.
